About Us

Yorktown Roadrunners is a summer youth running club in Yorktown, Indiana that was founded in 2010.  Youth (boys and girls) going into grades 3 to 8 who live in or near Yorktown may join (do not need to attend Yorktown schools).  All ability levels are welcome.

The objectives of the Yorktown Roadrunners are:
  • To promote the sport of running
  • To inspire and train young runners and aspiring runners
  • To teach and encourage general fitness, nutrition, and wellness
  • To foster self-esteem and self-confidence
  • To provide an opportunity for making new friends and building relationships

The focus of the Yorktown Roadrunners is fun and fitness - not competition.  Participants need not be "good" runners.  All youth are encouraged to join, even if they are new to the sport of running.  Club members are simply expected to participate consistently, set and pursue personal goals, and attempt to improve over time.

Meetings/Group Workouts

The Yorktown Roadrunners meet twice a week during the Summer to run and have fun.  Our meetings/practices are on Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m.  Participants are encouraged to come as much as possible, but may join even if they are only able to make it to one meeting per week due to other obligations, etc.  Our Summer program lasts 9 weeks - see our schedule for more information.

A typical club meeting schedule is as follows:
  • Check-in and submit training logs (5 minutes)
  • Stretching and warm-up (10 minutes)
  • Running (and/or walking) (20-40 minutes)
  • Popsicles, progress awards, and tips from coaches (10 minutes)
  • Check-out and retrieve training log (5 minutes)

In addition to the practice/training that takes place during the weekly meetings, club members are encouraged to run at least one other time each week on their own or with friends.  Club members keep track of the distance for all of their workouts and strive to achieve personal goals.
